Neologisms

With the help of Callum (all right, I heard him use them and want to get them out there), here are a couple of new words. Use them and be proud.

Co-simpso-dence;(n.) the phenomenon whereby the episode of "The Simpsons" that you quote, discuss with a friend or otherwise pops into your head will be broadcast on television within a week of your thinking about it.

ie;

Euan: Hey, remember how we were talking about Apu the humming bird?

Denis: [makes hummingbird noise]

Euan: That's the one. It was on TV last night.

Denis: Wow. What a co-simpso-dence. [1]

Leftious Indignation;(n.) Similar to righteous indignation, but from a left-wing position. Getting angry at Dubya, Little Johnny and bigots in general would be forms of leftious indignation.

[1] Yes, I know Denis would never say this sentence in a million years.

In my experience, the 'co-simpso-dence' term is far too useful to be restricted to just one show - I tend to apply it to the phenomenon of an episode of any episode of a TV show turning up just after you were talking about it to someone. It's just that it happens more often with The Simpsons than any other TV show, due to a) the sheer number of Simpsons episodes out there, and b) the sheer number of times they repeat these episodes.

(You do realise, of course, that if the episode where Apu gets fired from the Kwik-E-Mart and James Woods takes over for him doesn't show up on TV within the next week, we'll have just disproved the co-simpso-dence as a legitimate phenomenon...)

Actually, I tend to say it to Leila with disturbing regularity...

Does this mean you've heard Cal use the term, or that he stole it from you?

Hmmm... the neologistic plot thickens...

Nope, definitely not mine - Callum told me about the word he'd thought up at some point in the not-too-distant past, so it's all his... The only tentative claim I may have in relation to the word would be in terms of popularising the extended usage of it to apply to all TV shows, not just the Simpsons.
